Mari Iwamoto (Japan) completed her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich in 2017. In her art, the artist focuses on globalisation in Japan. Unlike the Silk Road, the influences of foreign cultures do not take place via land routes, but via sea routes and ships. The resulting image is like an island that is flooded with culture and civilisation from outside. The resulting aesthetic is evidence of a veritable sensory overload, which in turn is reflected in Iwamoto’s works.

Zhipeng Wang (China) studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in the class for jewellery and utensils. Wang chooses historical elements for his art, using tea as a material and the Silk Road as a theme from times gone by. His aim is to reinterpret the historical cultural contact between Europe and Asia in contemporary works of art.

Special opening for the Jewellery Week
Wednesday, 28 February, 5 – 10 p.m.

With an introduction by Prof. Dr Sool Park, University of Hildesheim
