Music performance by Giovanni Raabe

In the Dadaist cosmos of “Kyoto Morph and the Four Feet of Benjamin,” poetic and absurd visual worlds unfold somewhere between dream and reality. Babi Brüller, Luisa Baldhuber, Florian Donnerstag, and Nina Markhardt weave together painting, installation, sculpture, and expanded pictorial spaces into a symphonic landscape of color. Between Far Eastern serenity and urban surrealism, quirky scenarios emerge that guide the gaze and spark curiosity without giving too much away. A kaleidoscopic interplay that invites visitors to linger through humor and poetry.

Babi Brüller’s work explores her family’s Jewish heritage as well as social structures and the power of authoritarian collectives. Movable, mostly life-sized puppets in slightly grotesque forms inhabit the exhibition spaces. Large-scale paintings depict groups of similar, androgynous individuals—choir singers, schoolchildren, soldiers, for example—in surreal settings where the unsettling dynamics inherent to such groupings become palpable.

Luisa Baldhuber examines the interplay of color, space, and light and their influence on our perception. Starting from classical painting, she transfers fields of color into space, disrupts architectural structures, and opens up new dimensions between fiction and reality.

Florian Donnerstag’s work explores the ambivalence between form and formation. Breaks, asymmetries, and a deliberate questioning of content serve as artistic tools in his paintings. In his practice, content becomes a formal element that unfolds beyond clear symbolism, producing an anti-symbolic effect. His works thus resist definitive interpretation and open up new narrative layers.

Nina Markhardt investigates the role of fungi and algae across different temporal dimensions and works with biodegradable materials. Her bioplastic sculptures and paintings embody a sustainable artistic approach while addressing the interconnectedness of all living beings.
